Michael Jackson's funeral/tribute was today, I can safely assume that the area around the staples center in Los Angeles, California is much like a zoo right now. I bet the paparazzi are having their day snapping pictures of Michael's "children" without them wearing those goofy masks he always had them wear.
Martin Streek passed away today. If you don't know who he is, you should. Streek was a radio host on 102.1 The Edge, most commonly known for his Thursday Top 30 show that he was recently "let go" from. Allegedly he committed suicide and he left a facebook status/suicide note behind. Apparently, no one knew why he did it or that h
e had planned to do it which sucks even more.
Enough with the funerals and sudden deaths. I am super excited about this album, so excited that i just HAD to get a copy of it from the internet before the release date in one week. The band; Billy Talent. They've already put out 2 albums enti
tled, "Billy Talent" and, "Billy Talent II". Well, the boys this year are here to bring you the third installment, "Billy Talent III". It has vibes more of their second album and I'm sure many will say that they have "sold out" or "suck". That's fine, I mean your opinion is just that--your own. To those that have already given up on the band I ask, please please please, give them another shot. You won't be disappointed with this album, trust me. I'm listening to it right as I am writing this and it will definitely be what I listen to while driving.
The first song, Devil on my shoulder starts off with a catchy guitar riff that is promising. I feel the vibe of "Devil in a midnight mass". Coincidentally they both speak of the same topic and both have "devil" in the song title. Although there are similarities to the second album, their sound has changed and seems to be a lot heavier than their other stuff but, nonetheless still catchy as ever. This song will definitely be a hit if released as a single.
Even though most of the album does have a heavier sound, we are still graced with slower and softer songs such as, White Sparrows. This song is nothing short of fantastic. I think what I like most about this band is that each and every song is a story. If you read the lyrics or even just listen to the song you will be taken through a life problem or seeing something in the perspective of someone else. It's pretty cool, I must
say. Although the songs are usually about something that is depressing, I don't feel depressed. Have you ever listened to a song that changed the way you felt? I'd expect to feel sad after listening to songs that were sad but with Billy Talent I dont.
Turn your back, is a song the band did with Anti-Flag, whom I love. I think it's really exciting when bands collaborate on music, especially since anti-flag are American and Billy Talent are Canadian. Definitely one of my favourite songs right now if I had to pick. But, my favourite song is The Dead Can't Testify. Something about this song just sticks in my head to where I hum or sing it everywhere.
If you haven't checked out the band ever, or have and stopped listening to them. I'm urging you to go out and purchase this album! I am definitely going out a getting a copy of the album when it drops. Even with all the songs right now, I have to support this band and Canadian Music. These 4 guys are doing great things for the canadian music scene and are really showing the world that Canada has what it takes! Way to go guys! =) The album officially drops in Canada July 14th!
